I'm a freshmen and my best jump is like 34.11 feet. i KNOW thats not great at all so you don't have to tell me that. I have a decent 1st and 3rd phase i was just wondering how to improve on my step/middle phase...|||The most common reason for a short second phase is because your first phase it too long.
The first phase should be about 1/3 your total distance.
If you go too far or too high in the first phase you will not be able to run off the landing for your second phase.
Practice keeping your first phase controlled so you do not collapse on landing and can run off the landing into the second phase.|||Well, one of the best ways to exercise to improve your springiness is quite simple - to jump up and down on the spot, each time trying to spring higher than the previous. Practice using your arms to jump and thrust up.
When doing weights, concentrate on developing leg muscles, but also some arm strength can help to push you forward.
Also practice jumping forward from standing starts as well as from running - again this can help develop muscles, strength and build technique.
